The WHO recommends expanding testing for Mpox (Monkeypox)
The newly circulating virus variant Mpox clade Ib is much more contagious and can cause more severe courses of disease than the variant circulating in 2022. According to the WHO, there is a risk that Mpox could spread globally again and become a health risk in many countries. The WHO therefore recommends better monitoring of the incidence of infection and increased testing. PCR tests are the gold standard.
